Spooky Halloween French Bread Pizzas

Halloween, like most holidays, is a big deal in our home. I love dressing up in fun matching costumes and decorating both inside and outside. I have hosted quite a few Halloween parties back in the day and, of course, I love to cook up some spooktacular Halloween food!
This Halloween week I decided to make Halloween Pizzas. I found some fun edible designs on Pinterest and to mix it up a bit I decided to make French Bread Pizzas. This recipe is simple and you can get as wild and creative with the toppings and designs as you want! It is perfect for getting the kids to help and everyone knows pizza is a crowd pleaser, so try serving these at your next Halloween party!
One of my favorite things to do is cook with my little helper, Ava.
She always makes me laugh {and dare I say she is messier than me}!

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf French bread, any flavor (I like garlic and herb)
  • 14oz jar of pizza sauce
  • 1 cup Italian cheese, shredded
  • olive oil, for drizzling
  • toppings to decorate such as strips of mozzarella cheese, green and black sliced olives, and sliced pepperoni

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Using a bread knife, cut French bread lengthwise then in half, making 4 pieces.
  3. Place bread face up on a baking sheet and drizzle olive oil on top of each piece of bread.
  4. Bake for 5 minutes until lightly toasted.
  5. Remove from oven and brush pizza sauce all over the tops of the toasted bread.
  6. Sprinkle on cheese to cover.
  7. Now have fun and add toppings to make designs (see examples below).
  8. Place pizza back in oven and cook for 5-6 more minutes or until cheese is melted and pizza is warm.
  9. Serve with the remaining pizza sauce, warmed, on the side for dipping.
Start with a large loaf of French bread, I like garlic and herb flavored bread but any will do.
Now cut in half then slice open.
Place bread face up on a baking sheet and drizzle olive oil
on top of each piece of bread.
Bake for 5 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly toasted.
Remove from oven and brush pizza sauce all over the tops of the toasted bread.
Sprinkle on cheese to cover.
Time to decorate!
This is the best part- create any edible Halloween creation you want!
I used mini cookie cutters to cut out bat shapes in cheese.
Cut sliced black olives into spiders!
I saw this Dracula on Pinterest and had to give him a try!
Mummies are simply made with strips of sliced cheese
and two sliced green olive eyes!
Of course we had to have a pumpkin {Ava's favorite}!
Be creative and using sliced pepperonis cut into any shape you want.
I added chopped olives to the top for a stem.
Place pizza back in oven and cook for 5-6 more minutes
or until cheese is melted and pizza is warm.
My little helper got a kick out of this fun Halloween meal!
Slice and serve with a side of warmed pizza sauce for dipping.
These pizzas are frighteningly delicious (and fun to make too)!
