Abita King Cake Soda Float

It's King Cake week here on the blog and I am so excited to share this fun- and kid friendly- Mardi Gras drink recipe with y'all! To make my King Cake Soda Float, I combined new Abita King Cake Soda {visit their site to find a store near you that carries it} and Birthday Cake Ice Cream and served it in a fun sugar rimmed glass. This sweet and delicious dessert style drink is perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras with the whole family!

Ingredients:

Makes one drink
  • 1 bottle Abita King Cake Soda
  • 2 scoops Birthday Cake or King Cake {if you can find it} Ice Cream
  • purple, yellow, and green colored sugar, for rimming glass
  • Light Corn Syrup, for rimming glass

Directions:

  1. Using a Qtip or small brush, add clear corn syrup around the rim of your glass.
  2. Add colored sugar, one color at a time, to a plate and dip a section of the glass rim in the sugar to coat it. You should have all three colors in different sections around the rim.
  3. Depending on the size of your glass, add 2-3 scoops of ice cream.
  4. Now pour your King Cake Soda on top, letting it bubble up.
  5. Fill to the top, add a straw, and enjoy your festive drink!
You can purchase your colored sugar or
color it yourself with plain white sugar and 1-2 drops food coloring.
I just added a tbsp or so of sugar to three different bowls then added 2 drops of green, purple, and yellow food coloring to one bowl each and stirred to coat and color evenly. Store in baggies for later.

Isn't it pretty?!
Bluebell used to have King Cake ice cream or sometimes you can find it at a a local ice cream shop.
I looked all over and couldn't find any so I used Birthday Cake ice cream which still has the sweet flavor and festive sprinkles throughout that reminds me of King Cake.
You could also use a Cinnamon Roll flavored ice cream too.
Using a large ice cream scoop, add ice cream to your rimmed glass.
Depending on the size of your glass, add 2-3 scoops of ice cream.
I added three scoops because why not, right?
Now time for the fun part!
Pour your Abita King Cake Soda on top of the ice cream.
Let it fizz up and keep adding until it's filled.
 Add a straw and enjoy.
Word of advice: don't add a plastic baby to the top like I did originally.
That poor thing sunk right to the bottom and wasn't quite the fun topper I had envisioned obviously!

Happy Mardi Gras!
