Blackberry Brewed Sun Tea

The sun is out and the weather is warm and that means it's time to brew some sun tea!
Being a Southern lady we drink sweet iced tea all year round but come summer time I love to make fruit infused sun tea. Sun Tea means instead of boiling water inside you "brew" the tea in the warm sun. Simply place your tea bags in a large beverage jar filled with cool water and set in a sunny place {I use my backyard patio} and let the tea bags steep and brew. Then I add pureed and chopped fruit, sugar, and ice and serve! A refreshing cool drink for summertime!

Before we get to the recipe I wanted to share some pictures with y'all from Mother's Day this year.
Muffins with Mom at Ava's preschool was such a special time.
Even better I got to bring Stella Rose along too and she
enjoyed hanging out with all the bigger kids.
Selfie with my girls!
My little artist painted flower pots and we decorated a special one with glitter and stickers for her Oba {my Mom}.
This weekend we attended a local festival, The May Fest, in downtown Leesville.
Mama got to fill up on spicy boiled crawfish!
We drove to Lake Charles on Saturday
and I got an hour of kid free shopping in while the babies napped in the car with Dad.
Woohoo!
Mama Bear, Little Bear, and Sister Bear before dinner at L'Auberge Casino.
A delicious cajun seafood buffet for dinner.
I filled up on steamed crab legs, my favorite!
My beautiful babies after church on Sunday.
Bedtime and a sweet handmade necklace from my darling Ava.
I am one blessed Mama!
Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day too!

Ingredients:

  • 6 bags family size Lipton iced tea bags
  • 12 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 1 cup blackberries, plus more for topping
  • ice, for serving

Directions:

  1. Start by filling a large jar or beverage container with cool water.
  2. Now add your tea bags- the rule is usually about 1 cup of water to every regular size tea bag. I used jumbo iced tea bags and those are equal to 2 regular bags.
  3. Add a lid to your jar and set outside in a sunny spot for 1-2 hours. Don't leave it longer than 2 hours or it may become bitter.
  4. Once your tea is brewed bring back inside and discard tea bags.
  5. Puree 1 cup of blackberries in a blender or food processor.
  6. Stir blackberry puree into tea and add sugar to taste. I added 1/2 cup.
  7. Pour into glasses filled with ice and garnish with blackberries.

Just about any berry would be tasty in this tea
but my favorites are blackberries and raspberries.
Puree 1 cup of blackberries in a blender or food processor.
Blend until somewhat smooth and stir into tea.
Add sugar to taste. I add about 1/2 cup.
Add ice to glasses, fill with tea, and garnish with fresh blackberries.
Add a straw, sit back, and relax with your cold drink in hand!
