Jazzed Up Broccoli Salad

As a Mom I am always trying to look out for what is best for my kiddos. That includes making sure they have a healthy balanced diet. Sure we all have a sweet tooth and enjoy treats and snacks but making sure they eat- and enjoy- their veggies is my #1 food goal right now. Ava especially is going through a phase where she wants carbs, carbs, and more carbs. The veggies she used to love like asparagus, spinach, and peas are no longer tasty to her but thank goodness she still enjoys salads and broccoli. I decided to combine the two and make a Jazzed Up Broccoli Salad for dinner the other night.
This side dish is inspired by my Mom's broccoli salad from my childhood but jazzed up with dried fruit, sunflower seeds, a half yogurt/half mayo dressing, and of course, bacon! Check out the recipe below and let me know what you think. I hope your little foodies like it as much as mine did!

Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken Tacos + Vacuvita Review

These flavor packed Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken Tacos are made with just 3 ingredients and prepared in minutes in your slow cooker. Read about the Vacuvita® One Touch Storage System – the first of its kind vacuum and food storage option.

My kitchen must have this spring is my new Vacuvita® One Touch Storage System. The website describes it as "a modern day, high tech, connected bread box" . This amazing product is the first of its kind vacuum and food storage option. As a busy Mom who grocery shops multiple times a week, we sure do have a lot of food in our home and quite a lot of food that goes bad or stale or gets freezer burn. Vacuvita has cut back on my food waste and let's us enjoy food up to five times longer. I have saved so much money, time, and frustration! They also offer an app to keep track of everything you have stored and then send reminders of when it will expire. Definitely a must for busy Moms!

DIY Candy Bouquet and Emergency Chocolate Kit | Chart House at Tower of the Americas

It's our 6 year wedding anniversary!

6 years has flown by and sometimes I seriously think really it's ONLY been 6 years? It's hard to remember my life before Ashton and our kids and honestly I don't miss it. Marriage and parenting are hard but I would not trade it for the world.
So Ashton and I, being the creative and funny people we are, exchanged both traditional and modern 6th Wedding anniversary gifts this year. Traditional 6 year gifts are Iron {check out ours below} and Modern is candy! I love how they all came out so I want to share the easy DIY steps to make them at home. I made a Candy Emergency Kit and Ashton made me a Candy Bouquet. You can customize these with all your favorites and they are great for not just anniversaries but also birthdays and holidays too.

Comment below with your favorite homemade gift ideas!

Horseradish Cream Sauce + St Patrick's Day Recap

St Paddy's weekend was a fun one indeed but in true Hood Family fashion it did not go as planned.
The weather finally warmed up to a humid 90 degrees here in Texas and so of course, our A/C in our rental home decided to go kaput . Since we could not get it fixed until Monday we went out and bought fans for all the rooms and decided to stay out of the house as much as possible during the days. So not as much cooking and crafting as I wanted but we enjoyed time at the movies, park, and local restaurants.

That night we came home and while the girls and Ashton built a leprechaun trap I made dinner: Crock-Pot Corned Beef {so the oven would not heat up our home more} with a Horseradish Cream Sauce.
You will love this easy to make, creamy horseradish sauce recipe. We served with with our corned beef and cabbage but it is delicious with prime rib and roasts too!
Lunch at Freddy's for old fashioned hamburgers and fries!
For dessert we shared a famous frozen custard to cool us down!
Dinner in the crock-pot to not heat up the house and make it easy peasy for dinner!
Tender corned beef, honey carrots, potatoes, and Southern fried cabbage served with a side of Horseradish Cream Sauce..
Ava and Ashton built a leprechaun trap with coins to catch those sneaky leprechauns at night!
