I found these bright colored candy melts at Walmart.

I used pink and blue for my cookies, to represent baby boys and girls.

You could also use purple and pink for girls or yellow if you do not know the gender.

I used a large package of Nutter Butters, which is about 32 cookies.

Melt the candy melts in a bowl in the microwave until smooth.

Dip half of a cookie in the melted blue candy.

Gently set on parchment paper to dry.

Repeat with half of the remaining cookies.

Next, melt pink candy melts and repeat the process with the remaining cookies.

Today I wanted to share these adorable Baby Face Cupcakes with y’all along with an awesome Huggies Diaper deal at Sam’s Club.

These simple cupcakes are made with any flavor cupcake {boxed mix or homemade} and tinted white frosting. Just add pacifiers and icing eyes and you have sweet treats that are always a hit at baby showers and parties!

For my active one year old Huggies Little Snugglers is the diaper I trust to give Stella that #SecondHug! These comfortable, leak proof diapers have been a favorite of ours since Stella was a newborn. Be sure to comment below with the reasons you love Huggies, too!

This week I purchased large boxes of Huggies Little Snugglers Diapers and Natural Care Wipes during our monthly Sam’s Club shopping trip.

Sam’s Club is offering a $3 off instant savings of Huggies Diapers and on top of that deal if you buy any two boxes of Huggies Snugglers and/or Huggies Natural Care Wipes between 5/9-6/30 you will get a $10 Sam’s Club gift card!

Learn about this awesome deal here.

I buy Huggies Little Snugglers Diapers because they are comfortable and breathable for my wiggle worm Stella Rose. The GentleAbsorb Liner (sizes N-2), which has tiny, soft pillows that provide a cushiony layer of protection and the color changing wetness indicator, are my favorite features.

Huggies Natural Care Wipes are gentle with TripleClean Layers and thick enough to handle any mess, with a texture that’s soft against your baby’s skin.

Hypoallergenic, fragrance and alcohol free, with a touch of aloe and Vitamin E, these wipes give a gentle clean for baby’s naturally perfect skin.

I used a simple funfetti boxed mix for the cupcakes.

Any flavor will work but lighter color

I used icing colors, found in the baking section at the craft store.

You any skin tone color you want. I used Ivory for these cupcakes.

White frosting works best with the icing color.

Add white frosting {about 1/2 a jar of frosting} to a small bowl.

Dip a toothpick into the skin tone icing color and swirl in the white frosting.

A little goes a long way and the more you add, the darker the color.

Frost each cupcake with the colored frosting.

Simple and delicious!

I started with small, clean pacifiers.

Cut the nipples off of each pacifier.

Cut as much off as you can so the pacifiers will fit right into the cupcake.

Press the pacifiers into the middle of the cupcakes.

Using black decorative icing, add eyes and {optional} hair.

If you run out of pacifiers you can make a mouth with the black icing too.

How adorable is this?!

You can customize these any way you want with hair, eyes, noses, rosy cheeks, and, of course, pacifiers.

Serve these cute cupcakes at a baby shower, birthday party, or make as a sweet gift for a Mom to be!

Now that Stella is eating solids {and let me tell you she eats and eats..}, I am always looking for healthy, flavorful food for her to try. She isn’t picky but she does seem to like apples, berries, sweet potatoes, bananas, and carrots the most.

We have also been lovin’ the new Gerber 3rd Foods® Lil’ Bits®. They are super convenient for a busy Momma like me, since they are healthy and flavor packed for my little one and come in a resealable container. Earlier this month I made Frozen Fruit Bites with the Sweet Potato Apple Carrots & Cinnamon flavor and Stella {and Ava too} gobbled them up. I really like that they have Lil’ Bits of fruits and veggies mixed in the purees to encourage Stella to mash and chew her foods and help transition her to table food. They also have 10 different fruit and veggie combos to try so my hungry girl can try all sorts of tasty flavors and combinations and have a wide range taste palate just like her big sister!

I decided to make these Teething Biscuits to have a healthy and natural snack option for my little one. I like knowing exactly what ingredients are in these and adding Gerber Organic Brown Rice Cereal and Gerber 3rd Foods® Lil’ Bits® not only adds texture but also gives them a light sweet flavor too that I know Stella will love!

Did you know?

• 80 experts spent over 120,000 hours on product development for Lil’ Bits recipes.

• Over 80 taste tests were held with 700+ samples to ensure that Lil’ Bits recipes had a baby-approved taste.

My sweet Stella Rose, who was born in April, is growing fast! She is a giggly, smiley baby and has brought so much joy to our family. But to my surprise, she is very different from her sister as a baby.

I thought I was prepared with pacifiers, a carseat, a bassinet, and swaddles and this one didn’t care for any of them. Ava had to be swaddled to sleep for her first 4-5 months. She loved riding in the car. She slept in her bassinet all night long after a couple weeks and she was hooked on her paci. Stella not so much. Stella loves bathes where Ava didn’t. Stella is a light sleeper. Ava wasn’t. Stella moves and wiggles, Ava was the opposite again. I’ve said all this to make the point that every baby is different. Who knows what they may prefer until you meet them and learn their personality. I put together this Top 5 list of items I recommend for babies and I would love to hear what your kiddos liked too in the comments!

1. Minbie Bottles

www.minbie.com

Minbie bottle teats promote the all-important instinctive breastfeeding technique, so if you switch between breast and bottle, your baby’s natural breastfeeding technique can remain undamaged. To help you, we have created Minbie which is a teat designed to support your newborn’s instinctive breastfeeding technique. This means that when newborns feed from Minbie they practice the instinctive latch and feeding-action for nurturing breastfeeding. This is a significant breakthrough in matching breast and bottle-feeding techniques and preventing feeding-confusion.

I waited the standard 2 weeks after my baby was born to give her a pumped bottle, in hopes that it would not cause nipple confusion. She is exclusively breastfed but I like to pump bottles so my husband can feed her and I can have a bottle on hand when we travel.

She took right to the Minbie bottle, even trying to hold it. She had no problems latching and drank the whole bottle in gulps! We have used our Minbie bottle numerous times since and I really enjoy the shape of the small plastic bottle and the natural shaped bottle nipple. I am happy to say my daughter is an excellent eater- whether nursing or drinking a pumped bottle!

2. Ergo Carriers and Moby Wraps

Babywearing for the win!

Since having Ava three years ago I have been a huge fan of babywearing {aka wearing your baby/child in a carrier}. I still use my two favorites from when Ava was a baby with Stella. Both are available for purchase online and at Target, Marshalls, Babies R Us, and more!

My Moby Wrap, which I like best for colder months {since it can get hot} and when the baby is smaller, newborn to 6 months. You can wearing it many different ways and the baby is snuggly and securly wrapped up.

My Ergo Carrier is my favorite all around carrier. You can wear it on the front {baby facing in}, on the side hip. or on your back when they are toddlers. It has a hood for covering baby from the sun and it is padded, comfy, and pretty darn cute! You can buy add ons like an infant insert, pouches/bags, and suck pads. I definitely recommend it for parents looking for a reliable carrier to use for a while since it can be used up to age 4!

Sweet Stella’s first bath was filled with coos and smiles mostly because she was comfy and cozy sitting in her Blooming Bath.

We had a regular plastic baby tub with Ava but I found this Blooming Bath for Stella and love it!

It’s bendable, soft, and made of a terrycloth material. It can be thrown in the dryer after you use it and it’s cute enough to use for photo ops too!

How tiny my little one was during her first bath!

5. Baby Crafts

We all get that nesting urge when we’re preggers and I had it bad with both girls!
I tried to make the same crafts for Stella as I did for Ava and I love these special mementos that we will keep for many years! You can see more of my crafts here: Crafty Corner.

Hands down my favorite baby craft are signed baby onesies.

I iron one letters to a plain colored onesie, add some jewels or a flower to dress it up, and bring along a pack of fabric markers. I have the doctors, nurses, and our visitors sign it for the new baby. Then it gets hung up in a shadowbox in the babies room!

Shadowboxes are a easy way to display memorable items.

I made a hospital shadowbox for each of my girls.

I included the signed onesie, along with the baby hat and shirt from the hospital,

their baby bracelets and an ultrasound picture or footprint.

Some other baby products I love:

Muslin Blankets, like these from Aden and Anais, are great for swaddling, nursing, changing, you name it! I always pack a few where ever we go!

Portable fans are a must in the summertime here! They’re battery powered and they clip

to the car seat or stroller handle. Cool that baby down!

Also pictured: portable sound machine. We use this, which places white noise rain and water sounds, all the time in the carseat, crib, and swing and Stella, just like Ava, calms right down.

I just love, love these knit crowns!

Stella outgrew hers pretty fast so I have to reorder soon {order a size or two up}.

Find them on Etsy or Instagram.

Boppy pillows are the bomb.

I use ours for nursing and for propping the baby on for pictures, tummy time, and sitting.

I recommend taking with you to the hospital for when you first have the baby.

www.boppy.com

Swaddles and Sleepsacks, like this one by Summer, are a lifesaver if you have a

wiggle worm like my baby!

She didn’t like them much as a newborn but they are working great now!

Playmats are a definite on my list too.

We have this one that has an attachable mobile and we have a small

one that is a tummy time mat with a pillow. They are small so they are perfect for travel, they can be thrown in the wash easily, and they entertain your little one!

Life with my two girls, ages 5 months and almost 3 years, is

fun, exhausting, and truly life changing. No matter how hard it is I love being their Mama.

We were blessed with a healthy baby girl, Ava Luciana Hood, born on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 3:22 PM. She was 7 lbs, 15 oz and 20.5 inches long.

The doctors and nurses at BJACH in Ft Polk, LA were amazing and I was lucky enough to have a healthy pregnancy and complication free labor and delivery. My parents came to Louisiana to visit and meet their first grandbaby and I can tell already she is going to be spoiled! Every day we fall more and more in love with our sweet princess and we thank our lucky stars that she is in our lives!

At 11 days young Ava was asked to be a model for a couple local photographers, Tiffany Hess and Jennifer Lohrke and wear a few darling designs from Couture Prop Shop .
In June we had our 21 week ultrasound and this was the big appt where we found out the baby’s sex!

We decided to have a gender reveal party with our friends that night so I made a card for the ultrasound tech to fill out the baby’s gender in secret and seal in an envelope for us to open at the party.

Which will it be?!

Beautiful Baby Hood!

Before our friends arrived I baked two pies: one Blueberry Maple and another Raspberry Crumb.

We then planned to have a group of Ashton’s friends and fellow EOD soldiers over for dinner, pie, and the gender reveal! Both of the pie recipes are from this amazing cookbook: Pie by Ken Haedrich.

Blueberry-Maple Pie

Ingredients:

3 cups blueberries

1/4 cup pure maple syrup, preferably light or medium amber

2 tbs sugar

1 1/2 tbs cornstarch

1 tbs lemon juice

1/8 tsp cinnamon

1 double crust flaky pie pastry

(recipe below or use 2 rolls of premade pie pastry dough)

Basic Flaky Pie Pastry

(makes enough for double crust 9 inch pie)

3 cups flour

1 tbs sugar

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut in 1/4 inch pieces

1/2 cup cold vegetable shortening, cut into pieces

1/2 cup cold water

Directions:

1. Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter, tossing it with the flour. with a mixer on low speed, blend the butter into the flour until you have what looks like coarse, damp meal, with both large and small clumps. Add the shortening and repeat. Turning the mixer on and off, add ha;f of the water. Mix briefly on low speed. Add the remaining water, mixing slowly until the dough starts to form large clumps. Stop periodically to stir the mixture up from the bottom of the bowl.

2. Using your hands, pack the pastry into two balls as you would pack a snowball. Make one ball slightly larger than the other, this will be your bottom crust. Knead each ball once or twice, then flatten the balls into 3/4 inch thick disks on a floured work surface. Wrap the disks in plastic and refrigerate for at least an hour or overnight before rolling.

3. On a sheet of lightly floured waxed paper, roll the larger portion of the pastry into a 12 inch wide circle with a floured rolling pin. Invert the pastry over a 9 inch standard pie pan, center, and peel off the paper. Gently tuck the pastry into the pan, without stretching it, and let the overhang drape over the edge. Place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine the blueberries and maple syrup in a medium sized bowl.

Combine the sugar and cornstarch in a small bowl, then stir the mixture into the blueberries along with the lemon juice and cinnamon.

Turn the filling into the chilled pie shell, smoothing the fruit with a spoon.

Roll the other half of the pie pastry into a 10 inch circle on a sheet of lightly floured waxed paper.

Moisten the outer edge of the pie shell with a pastry brush.

Invert the pastry over the filling, center, and peel off the paper.

Press the top and bottom pastries together along the dampened edge.

Using a knife, trim the pastry flush with the edge of the pan.

Pinch and push the pastry slightly down inside the pan so that it sits just below the edge.

Doing so will protect the pastry, as it has a tendency to over brown.

Poke several steam vents in the top of the pie.

Place the pie on the center over rack and bake for 25 minutes.

Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees and rotate the pie 180 degrees, so that the part that faced the back of the oven now faces forward.

Just in case, slide a large aluminum foil lined baking sheet onto the rack below to catch any spills.

Continue to bake until the juices bubble thickly along the edge, 25 to 30 minutes.

Remove and let cool.

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

On a sheet of lightly floured waxed paper, roll the pastry into a 12 inch circle with a floured rolling pin.

Invert the pastry over a 9 inch pie pan, center, and peel off the paper.

Tuck the pastry into the pan, without stretching it, and sculpt the edges into and upstanding ridge.

Place in the freezer for 15 minutes.

Combine the raspberries, 1/2 cup of sugar, and the lemon juice in a large bowl.

Toss gently to mix, then set aside for 10 minutes to juice.

Meanwhile combine the remaining 3 tbs sugar and cornstarch and nutmeg in a small bowl. Stir the mixture into the fruit.

Spread the raspberry jam inside the chilled pie shell.

Scrape the filling into the shell, smoothing the fruit with a spoon.

Place the pie on the center oven rack and bake for 25 minutes.

Meanwhile make the topping: Combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a food processor. Scatter the butter over the dry mixture and pulse until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Dump the crumbs into a large bowl and gently rub between your fingers to make large, buttery crumbs.

Remove the pie from the oven and reduce the oven temp to 375 degrees.

Add the quick cooking oats, sprinkling evenly over the pie. This will help soak up some of the juice and form a barrier for the crumb topping. Bake for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven.

Carefully dump the crumbs in the center of the pie and spread them evenly over the top with your hands. Return the pie to the oven, placing it so that the part that faced the back of the oven is now facing forward. Just in case, slide a large aluminum foil lined baking sheet onto the rack below to catch any spills. Continue to bake until the juices bubble thickly around the edge of the pie, about 25 minutes.

Transfer pie to a wire rack and let cool.

When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to surprise my sweet husband with the BIG news. I thought of all the things I could do…show him the pregnancy test, make him a meal of “baby” sized items (think baby corn, baby carrots, baby back ribs…) or just simply call him ASAP! But in the end I settled on a nice dinner out and for dessert: special CUPCAKES with a sweet message.

So I made a trip to my favorite local bakery: A Cupcakery by the Sea (formally Cupcakes by the Beach) and ordered 2 sets of beautifully decorated pink and blue vanilla cupcakes. Then I made a trip to Michael’s Craft Store and picked up some stickers, bows and scrapbook paper and decorated the cupcake boxes.

I chose Bonefish Grill as our dinner date spot because Ashton had never been and their food is so yummy! Oh, and of course I had a coupon (or 2!). I arrived at the restaurant early and talked to the manager and our waiter. I told them I wanted to cupcake box brought out after the meal and given to my husband as a “special Chef prepared dessert”. They were all for it! Thanks Bonefish Grill Destin team for going along with my crazy awesome idea!

Date Night!

Hands down my favorite…Bang Bang Shrimp! Spicy, crunchy, and addicting! I need to make my version of this dish ASAP!

Not only did we have a birthday coupon for FREE Bang Bang Shrimp but I had also won a $25 Bonefish GC the month before so submitting a story of our first date on their Facebook page! SCORE!

Dinner is served: Ashton ordered a Fish special and I had the Kobe Burger.
