NO! Only the dried beans will take that long to cook. Frozen lima beans are partially cooked, and definitely not dried!

Thank you for this great recipe, have been looking for awhile to find the one that most represented what my Daddy used to make. Open the back door coming home from school and you could spell that great aroma of the beans and ham. Would have over rice and it was a inexpensive meal for a family of 6 kids and mom and dad. So glad I found it. Daddy always had a big big garden and we loved to pick what was ready to be cooked. You brought back a lot of great memories from the 40's and 50's.

I would dice it and add it in just as you would with a ham hock. Enjoy!

Yes, you can sub water. Hope you enjoy the recipe as much as we do! I am very sorry about your Mom. Family recipes and memories are so special.

Is it ok to add water? I only have 32 oz of chicken broth. Can the other 16 oz be water? Mom use to cook on the stovetop but she passed away in 2021 so the only real recipe I got from her was those delicious collards she made. My kids say they taste exactly like hers.
