Summer Movie Review: Spirit Untamed- Adventure Awaits

We enjoyed a private screening of Spirit Untamed last week at our local B&B Theatres in Waynesville. It was the perfect outing to start the end of school and the (almost) start of summer! My two daughters, Ava and Stella, invited their school friends and their parents and we enjoyed a morning showing complete with popcorn, singing, and lots of laughs. My girls already were big fans of the Spirit movies and series and they were chopping at the bit (get it?) to see this movie as soon as they could! Stella even brought along her Spirit doll to see the show too. It was even better than we had hoped and all the kids and adults thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of Lucky and her wild mustang Spirit.

Spirit Untamed is a heartwarming tale about a strong willed girl named Lucky who is sent away from her comfortable, sheltered life at her grandfathers home in the city. She moves with her feisty Aunt Cora to live with her estranged father Jim in a small pioneer town called Miradero. She soon finds out that Miradero is not a sleepy town at all and is filled with lots of fun surprises!

Spirit Untamed has all the elements of a great adventure story: friendship, bad guys, an epic journey, lots of laughs and a few hold your breath what-is-going-to-happen moments, and of course, a brave horse friend name Spirit! Both kids and adults enjoyed this movie and there were many times we all laughed out loud or sang along to the catchy soundtrack. Our favorite song “Fearless” is featured in my video above and is a great summer anthem my kids are still humming.

Voiced by a stellar cast including Isabela Merced, Julianne Moore, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Spirit Untamed is the next chapter in Spirit franchise from DreamWorks Animation. The first movie, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was a 2002 Oscar-nominated film and there is also an Emmy-winning TV series on Netflix.

Galloping into theaters on June 4th.

Despicable Me Minion Easter Eggs How To

This Easter was a very special time for our family because it’s the first Easter Ava has gotten to spend with her Daddy. He was away last year for work but luckily this year he came back from his deployment a few days ago {a couple months early}! Thank you Lord! So for the past few days we have enjoyed every moment together including Ava’s first trip to Chuck E Cheese to Easter Egg Hunts to movie nights and family meals out.

For Easter we made Cake Pops and Chocolate Peeps and I surprised Ava by making Minion Easter Eggs for our family backyard Easter Egg Hunt today! She loves all things ‘minions’ and was beyond excited to see this basket of festive eggs filled with treats just for her! Check out my easy instructions below on how to make Minion Easter Eggs. They are perfect not only for Easter but also as treats for birthday or holiday goodie bags!

Minion Easter Eggs How To!

I made both the evil minions from the sequel and the fun loveable minions!

What you need:

Black Sharpie
Googly eyes
Hot glue gun
Yellow, blue, and purple plastic eggs
Purple yarn
White or silver paint pen

Directions:

For the traditional minions you need yellow and blue eggs. Mix them by attaching the large yellow top (body) to the smaller blue bottom (pants).
Using a hot glue gun or adhesive attach one or two (mix it up) small googly eyes to the top center of the purple and yellow-blue minion eggs.
Next use a black sharpie to draw hair and a mouth and any other features to the front of the minions.
I then drew the outline of sharp teeth and a mouth on the evil purple minions. I filled it in with a silver paint pen.
You can also use hot glue to attach short pieces of purple yarn to the top of the evil purple minions for hair.
Fill with candy, money, stickers, and toys and give to your little minion!

Prepare the eggs.

Purple stay the same for the Evil Minions and mix the yellow and blue (top larger yellow for the body, bottom blue for the pants).

Now add the features using a black sharpie, silver paint pen, and hot glue gun to attach yarn hair and googly eyes. Fill with treats and you’re done!

Nothing cuter than a Minion Easter!
