Beetlejuice Halloween Snack Mix

Ingredients

• 6-8 cups popped popcorn slightly salted
• 6 oz green yogurt covered pretzels
• gummy eyeballs and body parts
• 2 bars Halloween themed chocolate like Snickers and Twix roughly chopped
• 1 cup candy corn
• 1 cup Halloween themed M&Ms candy

Instructions

• Pop the popcorn and pour into a large bowl.
• Gently mix in remaining candy and pretzels and stir to combine.
• Scoop into small individual bowls and serve during movie night.

For this Beetlejuice inspired snack mix I used a variety of Halloween candies.

My favorite movie night combo is salty popcorn and sweet M&Ms. 

Start by adding fresh popcorn to a large bowl.

Gently mix in remaining candy and pretzels and stir to combine.

Scoop into individual bowls and serve at movie night.

This Harry Potter themed baked cheese appetizer is a fun and easy dish to serve for movie night and Halloween parties!

Ava helped create this recipe inspired by her favorite books series and her favorite food, brie cheese!

Harry Potter Baked Brie

Ingredients

• 1 large 20oz round wheel of Brie
• 1/2 cup of jam we like raspberry or plum
• sliced apples and crackers for serving
• decorative Harry Potter style round glasses for decorating

Instructions

• Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
• Start by carefully slicing the top rind off the top of the Brie wheel.
• Remove and place on a cutting board. Using s small pairing knife, cut out a small lightning bolt shape on the top left of the cheese. Set aside.
• Spread jam on all over the top of the brie, leaving a little space from the edges so it does not leak over.
• Add the carved top of the brie back on top of the round covered in jam.  Make sure the lightning bolt is positioned on the left top.
• Place the brie in a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
• Remove the Brie from the oven and carefully add the decorative glasses on top of the brie wheel.
• Serve warm with sliced apples and crackers for dipping.

Start with a large round of Brie.

I found this 20oz wheel at Sam’s Club. 

Start by carefully slicing the top rind off the top of the Brie wheel.

Remove and place on a cutting board.

Ava picked out this bright red plum jam which was delicious and the perfect Harry Potter color!

Leave a little space from the edges so the jam does not leak over.

Make sure the lightning bolt is positioned on the left top. 

Place the brie in a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. 

(Do not bake with glasses on top. I just added for the photo).

Remove the Brie from the oven and carefully add the decorative glasses on top of the brie wheel. 

Serve warm with sliced apples and crackers for dipping.

The new Despicable Me 4 movie is out now and we can’t wait to see our favorite minions on the big screen again!

To celebrate, I made this adorable minion shaped cake for our movie night treat! This fun recipe is super simple and fun for kids to help decorate (and eat).

Despicable Me Minion Cake

Ingredients

• 1 boxed cake mix and ingredients required on box usually eggs, butter/oil, milk
• 1 jar white frosting I used cream cheese
• yellow food coloring
• blue food coloring
• black licorice strings or pieces
• 1 Oreo cookie
• 1 mini Oreo cookie
• white or silver round lid from a mason jar or tumbler

Instructions

• 1.Bake cake in a greased round cake pan according to instructions on the box.
• Let cool completely and gently remove the cake from the pan and place on a platter.
• Scoop a few heaping spoonfuls of frosting into a small bowl.
• Add 3-5 drops of blue food coloring into the frosting in the bowl and stir until combined and tinted bright blue.
• Now add yellow food coloring (around 5 drops) to the remaining frosting in the jar and stir well until evenly tinted.
• Add the blue frosting to the bottom 1/4 of the cake, spreading on the top and sides. This is the minion overalls.
• Next, add the yellow frosting to the remaining top and sides of the cake, spreading evenly to cover.
• For the minion eye, place the lid in the top center of the cake.
• Now open an Oreo cookie and place the bottom half of the cookie (the black cookie with the creme center) in the center of the lid.
• Top with a small mini Oreo cookie (you can do a whole cookie or just the top part).
• Next, you need the black licorice to add hair and a smile.  Press a small smile made with the black licorice in a wide "U" shape on the cake under the eye.
• Then use 3-5 small pieces of licorice and press into the frosting on the top of the cake above the eye as hair.
• Now you have an adorable minion shaped treat for your next movie or birthday party!

Any cake mix flavor works. I used this tasty coconut cake from Dolly Parton’s line. 

For the frosting just use a white colored frosting. I used cream cheese. 

Bake cake in a greased round cake pan according to instructions on the box.

Let cool completely and gently remove the cake from the pan and place on a platter. 

Time to dye the frosting for our minion!

Scoop a few heaping spoonfuls of frosting into a small bowl. 

Add 3-5 drops of blue food coloring into the frosting in the bowl and stir until combined and tinted bright blue.

 Now add yellow food coloring (around 5 drops) to the remaining frosting in the jar and stir well until evenly tinted. 

Add the yellow frosting to about 3/4 of the top and sides of the cake, spreading evenly to cover. 

Nest, add the blue frosting to the bottom 1/4 of the cake, spreading on the top and sides. This is the minion overalls.

Now time to add the minion eye! All you need is something this is a large circle shape like a lid.

Place the lid in the top center of the cake.

Now open an Oreo cookie and place the bottom half of the cookie (the black cookie with the creme center) in the center of the lid.

Top with a small mini Oreo cookie (you can do a whole cookie or just the top part). 

Next, you need the black licorice to add hair and a smile. The string licorice works best but any will work. 

Press a small smile made with the black licorice in a wide “U” shape on the cake under the eye. 

Then use 3-5 small pieces of licorice and press into the frosting on the top of the cake above the eye as hair. 

Now you have an adorable and delicious minion cake! How easy was that?!

It’s Christmas season and of course we are watching our favorite Christmas movies every night! Home Alone is tonight’s choice, so I created a dinner inspired by Kevin McCallister’s Christmas Eve meal, macaroni and cheese, in the movie. This Stouffer’s Copycat Mac and Cheese turned out just as creamy and delicious as the frozen microwavable original- maybe even better! Make this comfort food dish tonight and have a Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!

Home Alone Stouffer's Copycat Macaroni and Cheese

Makes a large 9x13 pan full or approx 6 dinner servings

Ingredients

• 16 oz box Elbow Macaroni Pasta uncooked
• 1/4 cup 1/2 stick butter, unsalted
• 2 cups Cheddar cheese shredded
• 1 cup Gruyere cheese shredded
• 3/4 cup sour cream
• 10 oz can condensed cheddar cheese soup
• 2 tsp yellow mustard
• salt and black pepper to taste
• 2 Cups of Milk

Instructions

• Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add elbow pasta and cook for 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
• Add butter to a large skillet and melt over medium heat.
• Stir in soup, mustard, and all seasonings.
• Whisk in shredded cheese, a handful at a time, until smooth.
• Next, stir in sour cream.
• Finally, stir in milk slowly. Whisk until smooth.
• Remove from heat and stir in pasta, coating completely.
• Scoop into large bowls, put on the "Home Alone" movie, and sit down and enjoy.

I picked up a microwave Stouffer’s meal similar to what Kevin ate in the movie so I could compare my recipe.

Start by gathering your ingredients. I think the cheese soup, cheddar, sour cream, and mustard (or mustard powder) are a must for this copycat recipe but the addition of gruyere had me on the fence. 

It definitely made it creamier and richer but slightly different. So I’ll leave that as an optional ingredient if you want to change it up!

Add butter to a large skillet and melt over medium heat.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add elbow pasta and cook for 8 minutes. Drain and set aside. 

Stir in soup, mustard, and all seasonings. 

Whisk in shredded cheese, a handful at a time, until smooth.

You can either use all cheddar cheese or substitute 1 cup of shredded gruyere cheese for a richer, nuttier flavor!

Next, stir in sour cream.

Finally, stir in milk slowly. Whisk until smooth. 

Remove from heat and stir in pasta, coating completely. 

We made a container of Stouffers mac too so we can compare.

They were close except the microwave version wasn’t as creamy and the gruyere in my first batch had a richer flavor.

But so, so good!

Creamy, cheesy, and delicious!

Scoop into large bowls, put on the Home Alone movie, and sit down and enjoy.

To make it more fun (is that even possible?!), I provided props and an interactive script so everyone watching can Scream, Dance, and Snack along with the classic scenes from the movie!

This fun printable game is a great way for everyone, young and old, to participate in movie night! All props are easy to find and your Home Alone screening will be a blast! 

The simple props you need are gold chocolate coins, candy canes, pizza flavored goldfish crackers, gummy candy worms or spiders, and toy balls or craft fluff balls.

Stella loved eating a bite of a chocolate coin every time she saw she saw Harry’s gold tooth!

It’s Christmas break and we’re planning a movie night to celebrate! 

Christmas movie night’s are a family favorite and tonight’s choice is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. 

The animated classic is based on the book by Dr Suess that we read every year during the holidays. 

To add a fun activity to our screening, I planned a game of Grinch themed bingo to play during the movie. Our snack menu included

Green Grinch Hot Chocolate and Grinch Snack Mix, served in festive Grinch themed popcorn boxes.
