Woohoo! It’s National Grilled Cheese Month!

And who doesn’t love this comfort food classic, right?
Today I am sharing with you a cheesy, gooey, crunchy, and delicious take on a grilled cheese sandwich. It’s a mini version on inside out Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. I saw this recipe originally on The Country Cook  and decided to make my own version at home. It includes a special ingredient to really crisp up the crust.

Inside Out Grilled Cheese Sliders

Ingredients

  • 1 12- pack King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 4-6 slices deli turkey or ham
  • 5 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup Duke's mayonnaise

Instructions

  • Cut across all the rolls lengthwise. Just make one long even cut.
  • Then flip the rolls inside out. The outsides of the rolls are now going to be your insides!
  • Start by placing the sliced meat down on top of the rolls.
  • Now top with the sliced cheese.
  • Gently place the other half of the rolls on top.
  • Spread the outside of this bread layer with an even but generous layer of mayonnaise.
  • Start heating up your large pan or griddle on medium-high heat.
  • Once your skillet has heated up, place entire sandwich (very carefully) mayonnaise-side down onto the skillet.
  • Then spread mayonnaise on the side that is now on top.
  • Once the rolls have started to turn golden brown, flip the whole thing over.
  • Allow the opposite side to brown and the cheese to finish melting.
  • Place the entire sandwich onto a large plate and slice and serve!

Four ingredients for the perfect grilled cheese sliders!

Cut across all the rolls lengthwise. Just make one long even cut.
Then flip the rolls inside out.

Start by placing the sliced meat on top of the rolls.

Now top with the sliced cheese.

Gently place the other half of the rolls on top.
Spread the outside of this bread layer with an even but generous layer of mayonnaise.
Place entire sandwich (very carefully) mayonnaise-side down onto the skillet or griddle.
I used a griddle one time and a grill pan another. Both worked well.
I like the look of the grilled sandwiches better (darker with grill marks) but the griddle was a lot easier to use, keeping the sandwiches intact and cooking them more evenly.
Spread mayonnaise on the side that is now on top.
Once the rolls have started to turn golden brown, flip the whole thing over.
Allow the opposite side to brown and the cheese to finish melting.

Place the entire sandwich onto a large plate and slice and serve!

We have had these for picnics and a quick lunch at home.
Ava likes to dip hers in honey mustard but I think the gooey cheesy
and smoked turkey are delish on their own!

Happy Grilled Cheese Month!
