I love fun food and what is more fun than food on a stick, right? We enjoyed dinner on the patio tonight and I made a platter of Chef Salad on a Stick skewers for us to eat. They were simple to make and tasted great- even my toddler was excited to eat salad, y’all! Serve with a side of dressing for dipping and enjoy!

In honor of Buddig’s 75th Anniversary they are having a #ThankYouMealMaker video contest. I made this fun dish, Chef Salad on a Stick,
inspired by my Meal Makers, my parents, who always made fun food for me to try growing up!

Check out my latest video and see who I thanked for being my Meal Makers.

Based in Homewood, Illinois, Carl Buddig and Company is owned and operated by third generation Buddig family members. As they celebrate 75 years in business they would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who has purchased their products and supported their family owned business throughout the years.
It’s time to pay tribute and say thank you to the “Meal Makers” that have impacted your life, with a one-minute, online video submission on Buddig’s website here: http://bit.ly/2Lo5DUL
Winners will be selected by the authenticity of their story, context relevance, audience appeal, quality of their video and by the number of votes they receive.

Grand Prize Winner – One lucky winner will be awarded $25,000 and will receive an additional product “Prize Pack” at $125 value.
First Prize – Four candidates will receive $7,500.
Second Prize – 20 candidates will receive $750.
Additional Prizes – Throughout the 13-week promotion, five candidates will be selected to receive $75 each week.
Candidates must be 18 years or older at the time of entry. The promotion is open to applicants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and is limited to one submission per household. The deadline for submission is Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

Chef Salad on a Stick

Makes 5 salad skewers

Ingredients

  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce chopped into 10 bite-size chunks
  • 2 oz package Buddig Sliced Ham cut into 4ths
  • 2 oz package Buddig Sliced Honey Roasted Turkey cut into 4ths
  • 5 boiled eggs peeled and halved
  • 10 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 small cucumber peeled and sliced
  • 10 chucks of cheddar cheese
  • 10 large croutons
  • Salad dressing for dipping

Instructions

  • Using 5 large wooden skewers thread salad ingredients, about 2 of each.
  • I started with croutons then added add cucumber, tomato, lettuce wedge, folded sliced ham {stack a few slices together}, cube of cheese, folded sliced turkey {stacked}, half a boiled egg, and then repeat.
  • Repeat with four more skewers.
  • Serve with a side of your favorite salad dressing to dip or drizzle.

A traditional Chef Salad has both turkey and ham so I used Buddig Honey Roasted Turkey slices and Buddig Ham slices.
Cut the stacked slices into 4ths then fold over a couple for each skewer.
For this recipe I use 1/2 head iceberg lettuce that is chopped into 10 bite-size chunks.
I like to have all my toppings prepped and ready to go on a platter.
This makes assembly fast and easy.
I decided to add croutons and boiled eggs because they are my kids favorites. But warning they are not easy to thread on skewers.
Be sure to have extra if they break and fall apart!

I am still shocked that my toddler was excited to eat salad!
Thank you Mom and Dad for making fun food for me and being my Meal Makers!
I am so grateful for my foodie family.
