This content is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund’s America’s Farmers Community Outreach programs, but views and thoughts are my own.

This Farm Fresh Peach Salsa was made with fresh ingredients from our local farm here in Louisiana. The #MyTownProud campaign celebrates the people, places, and stories that make small towns great and I am thrilled to share about our favorite farms and markets and why we are #MyTownProud with y’all today!

As a young military family, we were excited to move to Louisiana and begin my husband’s Army career and to start our family. What started as a short two year stay turned into almost six years living in a small rural town in Southwest Louisiana. My husband, who is from a small town in Montana, didn’t mind it so much but it took a while for this Florida girl to adjust. Luckily, there were many places to explore and things to do and small town life grew on us.

On of our favorite weekend activities is to visit the local Farmer’s Markets all over the local towns here in Southern and Central Louisiana.  My family and I love visiting the local farms to pick fresh vegetables and fruits and shop the farmer’s market for food and handmade crafts and gifts.

Many local farms in our area also has a weekly CSA, which is another way they reach out and work with the community. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA’s are partnerships between food consumers and the farmers who grow their food. Buying a CSA membership is a lot like buying a piece of the field for the season. Every week, you get a basket full of fruits and veggies harvested straight from the farm.

After visiting these farms for a couple years now, we have come to know and appreciate the farmers and workers who keep these hardworking farms running and producing. They take the time to talk to you and recommend their favorite fruit or explain what crops are in season and why. They enjoy what they do and it is apparent every time you have a conversation with someone from the farm. The love and pride they have for their farm is a big reason they are so successful and long running. All these local farms are loved by not only the local community but all of Louisiana and this makes me #MyTownProud ! That is why I wanted to share their story with you along with The America’s Farmers programs, sponsored by The Monsanto Fund and the My Town campaign.

The America’s Farmers programs, sponsored by The Monsanto Fund, puts the farmer in the center of the story. In rural communities throughout America, farmers not only provide food and fuel, but they are also pivotal characters in their communities – often serving as the backbone of the areas in which they reside. Through the Grow Communities, Grow Rural Education and Grow Ag Leaders programs, The Monsanto Fund, with the help of local farmers, celebrates the accomplishments throughout communities with grants to help them continue to grow and thrive.
A new campaign sponsored by the programs called My Town will continue this celebration of the people, places and stories that make small towns great.  Of those living in small, rural towns 95% say they have a sense of pride in where they currently live. I am proud to be from my small hometown in Florida and can’t wait to go back one day!

I love this farm fresh salsa made using local organic fruits and veggies.
I start with 3 large yellow peaches.
Peel them then finely chop.

I love using multicolored mini peppers for salsas.
I diced up one of each color for this recipe.

Now dice 1/2 a red onion for some crunch and bite!

Add the chopped peaches, onions, and peppers to a medium bowl and gently toss.

Add the zest and juice of the lime to the salsa.
Stir and serve.

Serve with black bean or root vegetable chips for dipping.

I use whatever is in season for my salsas and sauces.
Pineapple, mango, watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, you name it!
