Easy Painted Unicorn Pumpkin

Happy National Pumpkin Day!

This year’s kid crafted pumpkin was a pretty and colorful unicorn! Stella designed it after she decided to be a unicorn for Halloween too.  This painted pumpkin is a fun craft to do together with your kiddos this weekend before Halloween!

Check out the easy steps below to make your own.

What you need:

  • 1 small pie size pumpkin
  • 1 bottle white acrylic paint
  • 1 foam brush
  • self adhesive jewels and gem designs
  • multi colored yarn
  • plastic horn
  • red sharpie
  • hot glue gun

Directions:

  1. Paint the pumpkin all over with white paint. Let dry then paint a second and even a third coat until well covered.
  2. Once the pumpkin is completely white and the paint has dried, insert the horn in the front top center. We purchased ours from the Halloween decorating section at our local PX. You could also glue on a clay horn or unicorn headband with horn.
  3. Now add decorative, multicolored jewels and gem designs all over. We used some for eyelashes and swirls.
  4. Use the red sharpie to draw lips.
  5. Now cut even sections of yarn about the length of the pumpkin and knot them.
  6. Hot glue them on the top, behind the horn. Keep adding yard down the back of the pumpkin for the mane.
  7. Now you are ready to display. I keep our painted pumpkins inside until Halloween night so they do not get wet.

Start by painting your pumpkins all over with white {or pink} paint. Let dry then paint another coat or two.

Now add decorative, multicolored jewels and gem designs all over. We used some for eyelashes and swirls.

You can also buy a kit with them already made like we did too.

Use the red sharpie to draw lips.

Insert the horn in the front top center.

Ava’s kooky creation.

Now cut even sections of yarn about the length of the pumpkin and knot them

Hot glue them on the top, behind the horn. Keep adding yard down the back of the pumpkin for the mane.

All done! Now you are ready to display your cute pumpkin!

I keep our painted pumpkins inside until Halloween night so they do not get wet and none of the gems fall off.

I love all our fun pumpkins this year!

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
