It is World Breastfeeding Week and since I am a proud breastfeeding supporter I thought I would take a break from posting recipes today and share these amazing breastfeeding photos I took with my girls this week. Thanks to Tiffany Hess Photography for these pictures. I will cherish them forever.
Recently a local restaurant in our town has come under fire (and made national news) for asking a breastfeeding mother to feed her child in the bathroom or leave. I was absolutely appalled by this and have since stopped patronizing that establishment. How can you ask a young mother to feed her child in a stall where people go to the bathroom? She wasn’t doing anything wrong and yet when she refused the owner packed up her food and asked her to leave. I have breastfed both my girls and even though it is has been extremely challenging at times, I am proud to say I fed Ava for 18 months and Stella is going 4 months strong! I know lately breastfeeding has been a touchy subject in the media and for some reason it has become sexualized. I am baffled by this. We are not flashing anyone or trying to make anyone uncomfortable, we are feeding our children. Actresses can take off their clothes on TV and movies but we cannot feed our babies in public? It is absolutely amazing to me that I can grow my child inside of my body and then feed my child with my body! The human body never ceases to amaze me! I love the bond it makes between Mama and baby and I support it 100%.
Breastfeeding is natural, breastfeeding is beautiful.
