This DIY Flower Suncatcher is a fun and pretty gift idea for Mother’s Day inspired by Disney’s Brave for #MovieMonday . Check out the directions below and see some of our favorite Brave quotes and photos!

On the last (or fourth) Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!

This month’s challenge was. . . . Mothers! Your Mom’s Favorite Film, or just a movie about motherhood! Everyone was allowed to choose their own favorite film so long as it was inspired by the challenge word and I chose one of our family’s favorites: Disney’s Brave.
We are a Disney lovin’ family and my little Ava loves Merida from Brave the best!
So it was a no brainer when I had to choose a Mother’s Day themed movie for Movie Monday today.
In the movie Merida and her mother, Queen Elinor, don’t agree on Merida’s future path as princess and Merida  finds a witch in the woods and makes an ill fated wish against her mother. In the end Merida discovers the true meaning of courage and her Mom and her are closer than ever.
My little Ava, age 2, meeting her favorite princess Merida from Brave at Disney World.
I cannot wait until our next trip to Disney World so Stella can meet Merida too.

“There are those who say that fate is something beyond our command. That our destinies are not our own. But I know better. Our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it.”
-Merida in Brave

What you need:

  • 1 8 inch wooden embroidery loop
  • 2 square sheets clear contact paper
  • green acrylic paint
  • 3 letter stickers spelling M-O-M
  • handpicked flowers
  • glitter, optional
  • green and gold ribbon

Directions:

  1. Paint the wooden loop all over, back and front, with your choice of acrylic paint. Let dry.
  2.  Cut out two squares of contact paper, slightly bigger than the large loop.
  3. Peel the backing off one piece of contact paper and lay flat on the table.
  4. Place the large loop {it unscrews and has 2 pieces}on top and arrange your picked flowers and stickers {we spelled Mom} inside. You can also add glitter.
  5. Now remove the hoop and add the other square of contact paper on top, smoothing down and sealing the flowers.
  6. Now place the decorated contact paper on top of the larger hoop and place the inner hoop on top, pushing in place. Screw the loop back together to tighten.
  7. Cut around the loop and discard any excess clear contact paper.
  8. Add ribbon to the top , we weaved together green and gold, and tie with a bow to hang.
Gather all your supplies. You can also use a paper plate with the center cut out if you do not have a embroidery loop but the loops are much sturdier and only about $1.50.
We bought a plain wooden loop and painted it a bright green just like the colors in Brave.
Paint it all over with acrylic paint.
Let dry then flip and paint the other side.
Now cut out two squares of contact paper.
You want it slightly bigger than the outside loop.
Peel the backing off one piece of contact paper and lay flat on the table.
Place the large loop {it comes apart and has 2 pieces}on top and arrange your picked flowers and stickers {we spelled Mom} inside.
Ava added green glitter too because why not, right?
So simple and pretty!
Now remove the hoop and add the other square of contact paper on top, smoothing down and sealing the flowers.
Now place the decorated contact paper on top of the larger hoop and place the inner hoop on top, pushing in place. Screw the loop back together to tighten.
Cut around the loop and discard any excess clear contact paper.
Add ribbon to the top , we weaved together green and gold, and tie with a bow to hang.
Displayed day or night this suncatcher was a beautiful gift!
This gift will make any Mother happy this Mother’s Day!
Now let’s see what everyone else was inspired to create for this month’s #MovieMondayChallenge!!

I'll help the grandkids make one of these this year. We always make homemade Mother's Day gifts and buy something they get to pick out. The kids love the homemade gifts so much better.

🦀 Check out our lunch yesterday at my parents favorite local spot, @soiasianbistro . We tried a variety of items off of their massive updated menu.
🍣 The sushi was by far the best thing we ordered. Another must try is the Shiso Mono appetizer, which is tempura fried Japanese basil leaves stuffed with spiced tuna.
🍤 We also ordered cucumber salad, pork ramen, udon noodles, and chicken katsu curry. All were tasty and big enough to share with the sushi appetizer.
🍜 I recommend checking out Soi Bistro if you are in town and enjoy fresh seafood and Asian dishes like we do. But save it for a date night or special occasion b/c their price point was pretty high for a casual meal. ❤

Happy Mardi Gras! We enjoyed a delicious Cajun inspired meal tonight at home. We started with Shrimp and Grits and ended with Bananas Foster to share. We may not live in Louisiana anymore but we can still celebrate #FatTuesday ! Here's hoping the parades will be back next year. 📿❤ #mardigras2020 #bananasfoster #whatsfordinner #mardigras

It's one of those days...furnance went out (but was fixed), kids took over my bed, husband had to leave early for work, dog barked non stop, and it's a snow day... again. But the sun is shining, the kids are happy, and I'm stocked up on coffee and new books. So it's not so bad after all. #staypositive
