Frozen Puppy Love Treats | Pet Parents site by K9 Advantix II


 Today I want share some puppy love with y'all! If you are one of my loyal blog readers you know my pups, Charlie and Dylan, are a big part of my life and they were my first babies (years before my sweet Ava).
 I was asked by K9 Advantix® II to share my love for my boys and what it means to me to be a devoted dog owner. I also have a special dog friendly recipe below too! 

First let me introduce my boys to you...
Charlie is my loud, loving, full of energy beagle dog. He rocks at the obstacle course and my water boy could swim all day. He loves lobster and belly rubs.



Dylan is my sweet cocker spaniel who still acts like a puppy at 7 and gets along with everyone (people and dogs)! He love vegetables and fruit and tennis balls. Scratch his ears and he'll be your best friend forever. 

 To me the unconditional love you have for your pets means you treat them as your family. You make sure they are happy and healthy. You give them love and attention. You spoil them. You make sure they are fed, washed, exercised, and that they get their vitamins and medicines. As a responsible pet parent this also means you need to keep them safe by providing proper parasite protection. Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes are not only a nuisance for our dogs but also can cause discomfort and illness. 
Living in the South my whole life, I have had to deal with fleas, ticks and especially mosquitoes (Florida's non official "bird"). My dogs like to be outside with me so I have enjoy taking them on  road trips, hikes, to the beach, the dog park, and swimming. But I always make sure they have the proper parasite protection (just a simple application once a month!). This keeps my dogs happy, which makes me happy!

 Your dogs will love this refreshing cool treat on a hot summer day!

Ingredients:

Make 6-8 treats
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt  (I used a heaping cup)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (creamy works best)
  • 1/2 a banana
  • medium size bone shaped dog treats
  • 2-3oz Dixie cups

Directions:

  1. Blend together yogurt, honey, peanut butter, and banana in a blender or food processor until smooth. 
  2. Spoon into small paper dixie cups, filling half way full.
  3. Insert a dog treat into the center of each cup, with the bone sticking out of the top as a handle.
  4. Place yogurt filled cups on a small baking sheet and place in the freezer until frozen, at least a few hours but preferably overnight.
  5. To serve to your pups, place the cup under warm running water for a few seconds and the treat should pop right out!



These treats are not only tasty but perfect for cooling your dogs down on a hot summer day. Make sure your pups always have fresh water to drink too! 
Let the treats thaw slightly before letting your pups lick and nibble them. As you can see Dylan loved his special treat and gave me lots of kisses he gobbled it up.
Dylan and Charlie are my babies so of course they have been given many healthy foodie treats throughout the years. But these Frozen Pops were a hit, especially after playing in the summer heat!

 
Don't think these are only for pups! Replace the dog treats with popsicle sticks for handles and these are also a delicious kid friendly treat!

Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Burger

This recipe would be a great Meatless Monday dish but I couldn't wait until then to share it! This Stuffed Portobello Burger is a combination of two of my favorite things: stuffed mushrooms and juicy burgers. It takes 30 minutes or less to make and is one messy but good dish that will have you full but wanting more! Don't forget to enter our great giveaway below! 

Ingredients:

·         2 portobello mushrooms, stems and gills removed
·         ½ cup teriyaki sauce
·         1 tbsp plus 1 tsp olive oil
·         ½ yellow onion, diced
·         2 cloves garlic, pressed
·         1 ½ cups baby spinach, chopped
·         2 tbsp cream cheese spread
·         ½ cup plus 1 tbsp Italian mix cheese, shredded
·         ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
·         Salt and cracked black pepper, to taste
·         Fresh baked Brioche Buns, lightly toasted
·         Spicy sauce, I like Gochujang, Korean sweet and spicy sauce, optional

Directions:

1.       Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.       Place portobellos in a baking dish and top with teriyaki sauce, turning to coat.
3.       Let sit and marinade in sauce while you cook the filling.
4.       In a skillet over medium heat, add a swirl of olive oil and add onions and garlic.
5.       Cook stirring until softened then season with salt and pepper.
6.       Add cream cheese and ½ cup of the shredded cheese mix, stir until melted.
7.       Finally add 1 cup chopped spinach and stir until wilted. Remove from heat.
8.       Flip portobellos so they are facing up in the baking dish and scoop filling into the centers, packing it in.
9.       Bake in the center of the oven for 20 minutes or until melted a bubbly.
10.    Right before the mushrooms come out of the oven make the topping: In a small bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, 1 tbsp shredded cheese, and 1 tsp olive oil. Mix to coat.
11.   Remove mushrooms from oven, turn the oven to broiler.
12.   Sprinkle breadcrumb topping on top of each mushroom then place under the broiler until golden, about 1 minute.
13.   To plate: I like to use more baby spinach (kale is also tasty) on the bottom of my bun then top with a stuffed Portobello (cheese side up).  This helps to keep the bread from getting soggy.
14.   You don’t need many condiments since the Portobello and its filling is the star but I had a pop of flavor and spice with a drizzle of Gochujang sauce on the inside top bun. Sriracha mayo would also be delicious.

15.   Top your portobello with the top bun and serve warm with a side of crispy potatoes or fresh steamed broccoli. 
Marinating mushrooms gives them lots of extra flavor.
  For this recipe I used teriyaki sauce but salad dressings, olive oil, soy sauce, and even wine work great too! 
To plate my burger, I kept it simple with baby spinach leaves on the bottom and a drizzle of Gochujang (sweet and spicy Korean sauce) on top of a toasted bun.

Thick and Creamy Peach Milkshake and MelanSol Sunscreen Review

Today I am sharing two summer faves with you today! My Creamy Peach Milkshake recipe and my new favorite baby sunscreen, MelanSol

I don't know about you, but I don't want summer to end! Seeing how happy my daughter is splashing in her pool, playing on the slide, or sharing a cupcake or {better yet} a milkshake with me during a lunchtime picnic makes me unbelievably happy. Since we live in the {unbearably} hot South and we spend a lot of our summer time outside, I always make sure my pale skinned beauty has baby sunscreen on. Now here's a sweet summer time recipe! 

Ingredients:

Makes 2 large milkshakes  


  • 14oz container Vanilla ice cream
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 5.3oz container peach yogurt
  • 1 ripe yellow or white peach, sliced, peeled and pitted
  • whipped cream, optional for topping
  • peach slices, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Place peeled peach in a freezer bag and place in freezer along with the peach yogurt cup.
    2.  Freeze for 2-3 hours.
    3.    Scoop ice cream, frozen peach yogurt, frozen peach slices, and milk into a blender.
    4.  Blender until desired consistency (it will be thick but I like to leave a few chunks of peach). 
    5. Pour into chilled glasses, top with whipped cream and a peach slice, add a straw, and enjoy!
      
Peel, pit, and chop a peach. 
Then place in a freezer bag and freeze until frozen, about 2-3 hrs.
I also use a cup of peach frozen yogurt. I place in the freezer too.
Scoop ice cream, frozen peach yogurt, frozen peach slices, and milk into a blender.
Blender until desired consistency {it will be thick but I like to leave a few chunks of peach}.
I like to serve mine in chilled mason jars!
Top with whipped cream, a straw, and a peach slice for garnish and enjoy your cool treat!
Nothing better than a refreshing fruit filled milkshake on a hot summer day!
