Valentine’s Day is a week away and we are in full planning and decorating mode. My girls have 4 class Valentine’s Day parties this week to bring treats and gifts to, and of course we go all out! DIY Flower Pens and Painted Pots | Mother’s Day Kids Crafts

These flower pens make great gifts and are a fun craft to make at home with the kids. Presented in a DIY painted pot gives them a sweet personal touch that Moms and Grandmas will love!

Check out the directions below.

My crafty kiddos loved making their beautiful painted pots and flower pens for Mother’s Day gifts!

What you need:

10 single multi colored silk flowers
10 ball point pens {choose a brand with removable bottoms}
1 roll green floral tape
Hot glue
flower pots or jars
small colored stones/beads
paint/stickers/glitter, optional

Directions:

Remove the cap and the plastic cap from both ends of the pen.
Save the pen cap, but discard the plastic end piece. Sometimes you can pry the end cap off or cut it off with a pair of scissors.
Wrap sticky floral tape from the top of the pen all the way down to the writing point of the pen, then replace the pen’s cap.
Add a large dot of hot glue to the top of the pen, where the plastic end cap used to be.
Stick the artificial flower, with the long stem removed, into the pen and press to secure.
Add colored stones to a jar or flower pot and place 4-5 flower pens in the jar, flower side up.
Optional: you can paint and decorate the terra cotta flower pots for another crafty touch before giving as a gift!

Any ball point pens will work as long as they have removable bottoms.

I used scissors to pry the end caps off. Discard them but save the pen caps.

I selected a hand full of different single flowers. Remove the plastic stems.

You will need a large roll of green floral tape.

Wrap the tape around the pen starting from the pen top all the way to the bottom. The floral tape is sticky and should adhere to the pens. Press to smooth down. You can add a couple drops of glue if you want it more secure. Replace the caps after you are done wrapping all the pens.

Add a large drop of hot glue to the bottom open end of the pen. Press one flower on top and let dry.

Repeat with remaining pens.

My sweet Ava loves crafting and when I asked if she wanted to paint flower pots she was all for it!

We used acrylic paint and added painters tape and vinyl stickers to make shapes and words.

The girls were so excited to give their Oba {my Mom} her painted pot and flower pens.

As a final touch we added glitter OBA stickers and flower decals.

These flower pens are a fun DIY craft for kids and adults. They make great gifts for birthdays, holidays, and just because!

Orange You Glad Gift Basket #TheThankFulChallenge

Beautiful November is here and I am loving it!

This is my favorite time of year and with Thanksgiving right around the corner I wanted to share something – or someone – I am very thankful for, along with a fun Orange You Glad themed gift basket and printable.

We have been stationed here in Ft Polk for almost five years now. This means I have had both my babies here. I heard all the horror stories about military hospitals but I was blessed with two relatively easy pregnancies and no complication deliveries. But wait- that was the easy part! The big challenge for me {besides becoming a mombie from the lack of sleep} was breastfeeding. Y’all know I am a breastfeeding advocate now but in the beginning it wasn’t so easy. Luckily, I was blessed again! Ms. Marilyn, who was the lactation consultant at my hospital during both my pregnancies and my girls’ younger years, came to my rescue many times. She was kind and understanding. She was helpful and encouraging. She was always there to lend an ear or just say hi anytime I needed her.

People like Ms Marilyn, who give so much and help so many, are one in a million. So today, for the #ThankfulChallenge, I wanted to thank Ms. Marilyn for supporting me though my breastfeeding adventures. Even when I wanted to throw in the towel, she always encouraged me to keep going. And I did. Ava for 20 months, and my always hungry Stella is going on 18 months strong!

Ms. Marilyn retired this year from the hospital but luckily she is still a lactation consultant and still there if anyone needs her. She recently started a Breastfeeding Support Group in Leesville and my big girl Stella {who loves breastfeeding more than I do!} and I are looking forward to attending the first meeting this week. As a thank you to Ms Marilyn for helping us and as a retirement gift, I made this fun orange themed basket filled with- you guessed it- orange goodies galore! I had a great time picking out orange gifts for this basket. The girls loved helping too.

You could stick with orange colored food items{think small single serve items like Tic Tacs, Cheetos, Cheez-Its, Goldfish, Crush soda} or go with Orange colored and flavored gifts like I did. I added a few food items like tea and cookies and a few girlie gifts like candles and soap.

You could also include a homemade treat.

I found most of these goodies at Marshall’s but I did score the orange marmalade in the British section of our commissary and the orange Tazo Tea at Walmart.

I bought the basket at the Dollar Tree, filled it with orange flavored treats, and added a card and a orange gift tag {printable below} and ribbon and viola! A thoughtful and unique gift that is a great way to say “Thank You”!

The Foodie Birthday Gift Guide

It’s that time again- my birthday is here and {lucky me} in my family we

celebrate birthday’s all month long! So even though the day has technically passed {shhh!}

I want to share some of my favorite Foodie Themed Birthday Gifts with y’all.

In this list you will not find your traditional cookbooks and birthday cards.

Instead I chose fun and affordable gift ideas from small businesses and also items available for purchase from bigger retailers like Amazon and Walmart.

My birthday trip to Baton Rouge was a blast! Stay tuned for my review of Stadium at L’Auberge Casino. The firecracker dessert was a showstopper!

We had a great time checking out the Baton Rouge Zoo

and the Farmers Market with my parents.

We enjoyed a delicious family meal at Bistro Byronz.

All dressed up for dinner out at The Rum House in Baton Rouge.

Not a foodie gift but I love my new princess sneakers from my parents.

My Foodie Birthday Gift Guide

A fun collection of affordable gift ideas for the food lovers in your life!

1. Glitter Coffee Mug

For those of you that follow me on Instagram you know I LOVE coffee mugs. I used to collect aprons, then cookbooks {ok I still collect cookbooks}, and now I am all about cute mugs

{and coffee too}.

I came across Sip and Sparkle {see note below} on Instagram and once I saw her adorable mugs I knew I had to have one! It;s hard to choose just one, but for my first order I got a custom made Mom Life themed mug in my favorite colors. Don’t you love the glitter bottom!?

She also makes travel mugs, mason jars, and awesome girl boss themed shirts {I have 2}.

NOTE: Unfortunately, this seller never came through with the giveaway we had agreed on and has since blocked me from contacting her. I am not one to bad mouth and I love working with small businesses so this is very disappointing. I no longer recommend Sip and Sparkle and I suggest you search on Etsy for other stores that make custom mugs!

2. Apron

I met the awesome Jennifer Janz at the Everything Food Conference this year in Salt Lake City.

3. Ice Cream Cups

Oh the cute things you can find in the dollar section!

I love these ice cream cups and wooden spoons from Target.

you could package these up with some sprinkles and homemade chocolate sauce for a

DIY ice cream sundae kit.

I also find cute summer themed dessert items in Michaels dollar section and at Dollar Tree.

4. Desk Sign

Every good Southern lady loves Sweet Tea, right?!

This small square sign sits on my desk and always puts a smile on my face.

I found it at a boutique in Gulf Breeze, FL but I have seen similar at Hobby Lobby and Michaels Craft Store.

5. Oven Mitts

I recently said buh-bye to my old and dirty oven mitts and when I spotted this colorful set at Walmart I knew they were meant to be in my kitchen! Even better they are the Pioneer Woman brand {the Flea Market design} and y’all know she is my favorite blogger!

5. Food for Foodies

So it goes without saying that we foodies LOVE food.

Food is always a good gift especially something unique and indulgent.

I like to stock up on decadent treats at Traders Joes when I am in Baton Rouge.

You can never go wrong with chocolate!

Their Dark Chocolate Crisps {think Pringles but chocolate} are my favorite.

Also Balance Bars {who I am teaming up with this month} sent me a few boxes of their new chocolate protein bars and I am loving their Dark Chocolate Pecan Turtle flavor!

6. Fun Bottled Drinks

I love gifting local bottled beers, like Abita, which is brewed in nearby Covington, LA and fun sodas.

I found this Nicol Kola at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and World Market has delicious Huckleberry Soda that is my husband’s favorite!

7. Food Games

I first saw these hilarious Food Fortunes cards at Urban Outfitters.

They are a playful take on tarot cards and help you to decide “what’s for dinner tonight?

8. Foodie Shirts

I have seen these funny Brunch themed shirts all over Instagram and Etsy.

This soft and slouchy shirt was a steal for $3 and guess where I found it at y’all?!
